October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a time to honor survivors, support those currently in treatment, and raise awareness about early detection. For me, this month is deeply personal because my mom is currently in her second battle with breast cancer. She’s completed three of her twelve treatments, and her strength continues to inspire me every single day.
When my mom was first diagnosed back in 2019, I was shocked by how little information we received about how her treatments would affect her skin. We had almost no guidance on what ingredients to avoid or how to care for her skin throughout the process. The only skincare advice she got – and it was on her very last day of treatment – was to wear SPF 15.
That moment stayed with me. As someone who has always cared deeply about healthy skin, I knew SPF 15 wasn’t enough protection, especially for someone whose skin had become more fragile from treatment. (The American Academy of Dermatology and other health experts recommend a minimum SPF of 30 to effectively protect your skin from harmful UVB rays.)
Seeing how little guidance was provided to my mom lit a fire in me. I wanted to change that experience for other women walking through cancer treatment. That’s what led me to become a certified oncology esthetician.
What Is Oncology Esthetics?
Oncology esthetics is a specialized area of skincare designed specifically for people undergoing or recovering from cancer treatments. Treatments can leave the skin extremely dry, sensitive, or irritated. Through specialized training, I learned how to safely care for skin that has been compromised, choosing every product and technique with precision and compassion.
My goal is to help my clients find comfort and confidence again – not just through improving their skin, but by creating a peaceful environment where they feel seen, supported, and cared for.
The Oncology Restorative Facial
At Skin Bliss Studio, I offer the Oncology Restorative Facial, a 50-minute treatment created to restore and maintain healthy skin for those currently going through or recovering from cancer treatments. This facial helps to:
